Explore the styles of overhead cranes we service. Ask us today which style is right for you.
The standard overhead crane is the workhorse of overhead cranes also referred to as bridge cranes. These cranes run along tracks on runway beams to create a rectangular working and lifting area. They come in two common varieties, the double and single girder, which differ in the crane's lifting capacity and overall work area. These customizable cranes come in single girders or double girders with top-running end trucks or with under-running end trucks. These movable and adjustable cranes can lift almost any load, whether a large piece of equipment or even tonnes of material.
Top running cranes are the more classic style of overhead cranes. These cranes have no limiting capacity, as the crane itself is supported by either the building structure, runway support columns or sister columns. Depending on the application, this crane style can also be used in single or double-girder set-ups and is the perfect option for applications requiring repetitive heavy lifts.
Under-running cranes are perfect for tight spaces where space is at a premium and medium to lower-capacity load lifting applications are the norm. Under running cranes, they generally use the building's width and height to the maximum and are typically supported via the roof or existing ceiling structure. Generally, these types of cranes are used for repetitive light moves or where space is limited.
A single girder bridge crane hangs its trolley and hoist on the bottom flange of the bridge. For most sites, a single girder is perfect as it has a simpler design, reduces freight expenses, and can be installed quickly. These cranes are ideal for lighter loads and can be easily repositioned.
Double girder bridge cranes have a hoist on top of the bridge girders and are generally suggested for use cases that will see repetitive lifting of loads more than 15 tons or loads that need to move further than a 65-foot span. You can also easily add a host of customizations on a double girder with walkways, cabs, reels, or other specialized equipment you may need on your site to better protect your operator.
Gantry cranes come in a wide variety of designs that are perfect for those looking for a lifting solution that does not require permanent installation or needs to move around your site for multiple applications. Gantry cranes utilize a trolley mechanism affixed to a girder using wheels or a rail system. The trolley, which includes the hoist, will then move back and forth, moving the load where it needs to go. Depending on your needs, gantry cranes are a great option as they can be easily moved from job site to job site. Generally, we see gantry cranes used in warehouses, welding, and fabrication shops where lifts need to be precise. Portable gantry cranes can also be used for plant maintenance or other temporary uses.
Jib cranes are among the most versatile overhead cranes known for their space-saving and economical set-up. Jib cranes have a horizontal arm, also known as the jib, and a vertical mast to secure the jib. These cranes can rotate horizontally to reach different areas around the crane. These cranes are perfect for sites where you will need to move or maneuver an item within a small radius. Typically, jib cranes are set up to offer 180 or 360-degree rotation with the ability to lift several tons at once. These cranes are known for their ergonomics and are perfect for repetitive lifts.
Monorail, or mono cranes, are designed for production or assembly lines carrying a load along a single path. Instead of using a bridge or girder design, monorail cranes connect to an I-Beam along the ceiling and can carry loads from point A to B. Commonly; mono cranes are set up in a single line. However, they can also be set up to include curves, branches, and switches to give you a versatile lifting solution without the complexity of other types of overhead cranes.
Otherwise called wall console cranes, workstation cranes are usually for close proximity work. These cranes will slide horizontally across a track on the wall to provide a workstation lifting capacity across its production line. Typically, these cranes are designed to lift no more than 10 tons along a 10-metre girder, but customizations can expand the lifting capacity or work area depending on your needs.

Crane door systems are the ideal solution if you are looking to set up an indoor and outdoor lifting solution. Crane door systems are otherwise known as flap door overhead cranes, overhead crane way doors or overhead door hoists and flaps. These cranes use a runway system with hinged doors to give you access to the outdoors or another part of your facility. These systems can load flatbed trucks in your loading area or simply drop a load in another secured part of your facility without requiring multiple lifts or transfers.
Kit cranes are an excellent option for those with a specific use case who want to save serious money. Depending on your needs, kit cranes come with a bridge and gantry designed for the specific application and can make for easy setup. Each kit is a little different and will come with all the necessary parts, including the girders, trolleys, runways, additional parts, and lifting accessories.
Magnet cranes use a powerful magnetic field to move material. The crane will activate the magnet when needed and use the magnetic field to pick up any metal materials. Then, when ready to drop the load, it will simply deactivate the magnet. Magnet cranes can either use a jib or a trolley, customized to your needs, and used in almost any area of your site. Magnet cranes are a great way to move a lot of material in a short amount of time.
Whether you are looking to move rebar or bundled, flat or curved metal rods or preparing products and materials to ship out of your facility, a magnet crane could be the solution you are looking for. Magnet cranes are perfect for indoor or outdoor work and can include customization to make your crane a true pleasure to operate. Whether you are looking for an ergonomic design that is perfect for your operator or has a specific use that requires easy maneuverability, we can source and install a magnet crane that will be the ideal solution for your yard's needs.

Rope hoist cranes utilize a reeving system to move a load electronically during a vertical lift. They can be fixed or use a runway system to move the load. Generally, rope hoist cranes can handle between 5 and 100 tons and have more headroom for larger lifts. Rope hoist cranes are popular in Alberta, from machine shops to cast and stamping plants.
Chain hoist cranes are the ideal option for lightweight lifting or deposition applications. These cranes use a simple reeving system and a dedicated chain container, providing a proper vertical lift with no horizontal movement. They can be manual or electronic. Like rope hoist cranes, they can be fixed to a runway for horizontal movement.
Crane trolleys are used with a vertical lifting device, usually a hoist, suspended below the trolley. The trolley is secured to a bridge beam for side-to-side movement, while a runway for lateral movement supports the bridge beam. Overhead cranes with trolleys are typically used in factory and workplace settings and provide a precision lift in a specific work area.
Runways are used with either top or bottom running and provide a track for the load to follow. These crane runways will typically be designed for repetitive long lifts from one side of a facility to another. Depending on the needs, these cranes will either be freestanding structures or will be supported by the side or ceiling of the building.
