  • + What is corrective maintenance for overhead cranes?

    Corrective maintenance is effectively reactive repair services when things go sideways. Even the most prepared company can have unforeseen challenges with their overhead cranes and lifting equipment.   • + I have spare parts on hand, can I repair my crane myself?

    No, we do not recommend working on your overhead crane and hoists on your own. Crane technicians are required to have 8,000 hours of experience and crane inspectors require 10,000 hours of experience as stated by OH&S and CSA Standards. Doing repairs onsite yourself could put the business at risk of not complying with regulations and standards set out by the government. With safety in mind, attempting to repair an overhead crane or hoist increases the risk of accidents leading to serious injury and possibly death – in extreme cases – if not completed with the utmost competency. 

  • + How do I know when to take my crane out of service and call a crane repair technician at Team Overhead Crane Services Ltd.?

    The simplest way to decide when a crane should be taken out of service is when the crane can not operate as designed by the manufacturer’s guidelines and manuals or is unable to function safely. Cranes are designed to lift and maneuver heavy equipment and parts, and with that comes high safety factors and risks. The Alberta Health and Safety Code requires employers to prevent an unsafe lift at all times. 

  • + What is required for safe overhead crane movement?

    OH&S states that employers are required to ensure cranes that operate on rails, tracks or trolleys meet five (5) minimum standards for safe movement. First, they must prevent overrunning safe limits or contacting other equipment using the same rail, track, or trolley, by having a positive stop or limiting device on the crane or the rails, tracks, or trolleys. Second, cranes must be equipped with an overspeed-limiting device. Thirdly, employers must ensure rails, tracks, or trolleys cannot be spread or misaligned. Fourth, overhead cranes operating on rails, tracks, or trolleys must have sweep guards installed to prevent foreign materials and contaminants from dislodging the crane. Fifth and lastly, the crane bed must be designed to carry any loads anticipated during active crane service.
